Esta semana he estado realmente ocupada, con mis estudios de francés casi abandonados, sin dejar de pensar en escribir en el blog y completamente centrada en preparar las clases de Proyectos de Moda y de estar a la altura de mis alumnas. ¡Una auténtica locura!.

Mientras tanto, en la estantería de mi habitación, el documental ‘The September Issue’ comenzaba a acumular multa por retraso en su devolución a la Biblioteca Pública. Menos mal que al fin ha llegado el viernes, he cogido el DVD y me he propuesto verlo de principio a fin. ‘The September Issue’ es una película-documental de R.J.Cutler que narra la realización del número de septiembre de Vogue América, el más extenso publicado hasta aquel momento. Un documento visual fascinante para alguien que aspira a formar parte de una revista de moda.

La película se plantea como una oda a la temida directora de la biblia de la moda, Anna Wintour; sin embargo, el amor-odio que su persona (o el personaje que ella misma ha creado) irradia, no es lo que ha captado mi atención.

Definitivamente, me quedo con Grace. Grace Coddington es la Directora Creativa de Vogue América y ostenta ese puesto desde el año 1988, el mismo año en que yo vi el mundo por primera vez. Su cabello electrificado color zanahoria, la ausencia de maquillaje y su forma de caminar ausente de feminidad crean una imagen realmente curiosa que hace que te preguntes ¿Quién es esa mujer?

La respuesta es tan clara como su piel; la única capaz de contradecir a Anna, la creadora de imágenes fascinantes sobre papel cuché, la parte más creativa y más real de la moda. Esa es Grace.

Me encanta Grace. Me fascina ver como trabaja, tanto el proceso como los increíbles resultados. Por supuesto, con la colaboración de fotógrafos como Testino, Demarchelier o Steven Meisel. Precisamente la sesión de este último es la que me ha resultado más inspiradora: estética años veinte y aires de nostalgia descolorida que solo Ella comprende.

Definitivamente, recomiendo que veáis el documental, no para profundizar en la personalidad de Anna Wintour, pues no os ofrecerá una visión distinta de la que seguramente ya tenéis, sino para conocer a la fantástica Grace Coddington y sí, observar la relación que mantiene con Anna.

No esperéis una experiencia religiosa sobre “la biblia de la moda” pero sí os garantizo que os contagiareis de otro sentimiento: estrés. El agobio del cierre de ‘The September Issue’ que ridiculiza el que yo he sentido esta semana. Al fin y al cabo, Grace y yo estamos a niveles muy distintos.

This week I have been really busy; my french studies were almost abandoned, I was thinking about writing on the blog all the time and my mind was focusing on preparing my classes of Fashion Projects to be at the level of my pupils. It was completely crazy!

Meanwhile, on the shelf of my bedroom, the documentary ‘The September Issue’ was accumulating days of fine because of its delay on taking it back to the Public Library. At least, it is Friday at last, I have already taken the DVD and I am determined to watch it from the start to the end. ‘The September Issue’ is a documentary-film by R.J. Cutler which shows the process of making the September issue of Vogue USA, the largest ever to that moment. An amazing visual document for someone whose great aspiration is to take part on a fashion  magazine. 

The film itself is on an ode to the terrible Director of the bible of fashion, Anna Wintour; however, the love-hate that she (or the character that she has created herself) causes, is not what has took my attention at all.

Definitely, I choose Grace. Grace Coddington is the Creative Director of Vogue USA and she is on that job from 1988, the year in which I was bornt. Her electrified carrot-coloured hair, the absence of Make-up on her face and her non-feminine way of walking create a really strange image that makes you ask yourself, who is that woman?

The answer is a clear as her skin; she is the only one capable to contradict Anna, the creator of fascinating images onto couche paper, the most creative and true part of fashion. This is Grace.

I love Grace. I’m fascinated by her work, from the process to the final results. Of course, collaborating with photographers like Testino, Demarchelier or Steven Meisel. In fact, it is the shooting of the last one which has been more inspiring for me: twenties aesthetic and faded nostalgic scenes that only She understands.

To sum up, I advice you to watch the documentary, not just to go into Anna in depth, as you won’t get a different opinion from the one that you probably have, but to meet the marvelous Grace Coddington; and yes, to observe the relationship that she has with Anna.

Do not expect to have a religious experience about ‘The Bible of Fashion’, nevertheless, I can guarantee that you will experiment a different feeling: stress. The pression of the closure of ‘The September Issue’ that makes look ridiculous the overwhelming sensation that I have had this week. In the end, Grace and me, we are at a very different stage.
